Content generation using Tweets

Writing tweets is a great way for content generation when you need to write blog posts.  For example, the idea for this blog post came from a tweet.

Original tweet: “Writing tweets can help you come up with blog post ideas.”

Rather than trying to figure out what to write for blog posts.  When I feel inspired, I will sit down and write hundreds of tweets.  Since I maintain several blogs, what works for me is a “brain dump”.  Some people do better when they tune into one blog at a time.  Whatever works for you is perfect!

Side note: When I write tweets, I keep it around 125 characters even though Twitter allows 140 characters per Tweet.  This will allow space for others to retweet your post or make comments.  I often add an URL to the tweet so the extra room allows for it.

Here’s my typical routine:

1.  “Brain dump” a bunch of tweets in a word document.

2.  I will go through the list afterwards and sort them out.  The Spiritual tweets will go on my personal blog or Center Of Oneness.  and of course, the online marketing tweets go here on DIY Online Solutions.

3.  Once I divide them up, I rearrange them depending on what my marketing strategies are that week.

4.  I then link blog posts, images or videos  to the appropriate tweets.  Write new blog posts depending on what inspires me. Usually 3 non-linked tweets to 1 link for my websites.  You will have to try out various formula depending on when and how often you tweet.

5.  Upload your tweets to your automated system.

Note:  I use  as my auto tweet delivery system.  Typically, I’d suggest the free version.  In this case, be sure to sign up for the $9.99/mo membership.  It’s worth the investment and will save you more than $10 worth of time each month.  You can add a person on your team to assist you with the management of the account without giving out your information. If you don’t have an assistant right now.  It’s good to set up your system in preparation for future growth.  Switching to new systems while you grow sucks!  Been there.  Done that.  Won’t do it again! is the best social media management tool out there today that offers management to G+ accounts.  I do have to say, even they are not perfectly linked with G+.  But good enough for something that’s new in the market.  I have confidence it will improve soon.  Best of all, you can bulk upload your social media posts (350 across your social media accounts).  *That* alone will save you tons of time!  Although I miss Social Oomph where I can bulk load years of tweets, covers a bigger range in online marketing and is more economical.

Call to Action

The marketing concept of Call to Action can be frightening.  Perhaps you’re already scared to share you Wisdom and expertise online, now you need to ask the Readers to do something after reading your blog posts?  Your first reaction may be “No F’ing Way!”  Your second reaction may be “That’s not why I write and share!”

Okay, let’s first address objection #1: “No F’ing Way!”

Have no fear.  Call to Action doesn’t  always mean you’re selling something.  You are simply inviting your Readers to go to step #2, if they want to.  and if they don’t, that’s okay too!  Let’s look at 3 scenarios.

Case #1: You are actually asking them to check out your products/ services.  Understand that your Call to Action is only in the invitation to check out your product or services. You did not tell them they have to buy. Trust that your customers and readers always have choices.   They do not need you to worry about them.  When we are writing blog posts, we are in the marketing stage.  Selling doesn’t start until they arrive on the sales page.  In marketing, all you can do is lead them to what you have to offer.  Hopefully, they will find that your product can be of benefit in their lives and purchase.

If you feel there’s something missing in the link between marketing and sales conversion, try working backwards.  Try listing 10 things you absolutely LOVE about your product and talk about these 10 things in 10 different blog posts.  Never talk about why they should buy.  It doesn’t matter.  They can decide that for themselves…  But you can certainly share why you really really really love the product.  Be authentic.  If you don’t love your own product.  No one else will.   Marketing and Branding is about inspiration; not about sales.

Case #2:  You’re asking Readers to sign up in your Newsletter so that they are notified of new posts. As far as I’m concerned, you are offering your Readers a free service while you gather important information about your marketing efforts.

With busy lives now days, no one really has the time to come back to your site to check out your work each week.  It’s rarely because they do not like you, it’s only because they forget.  With a simple opt-in system, you remind them when a new post is out.  Those who are not into what you write won’t sign up anyway.  In that case, it should tell you something about the blog posts in relationships to your business.

Analyze the material you’re sharing.  Study demographics and the target market  will help you serve others better.  This data is not a judgment on your abilities but a wealth of information to tell you what’s effective.  Marketing is easy.  Do more of what works and less of what doesn’t work.

Case #3:  You are simply offering them more freebies.  Whatever it is, Call to Action only means that you’re offering more stuff outside of this blog post.  Who doesn’t want more?  This can be a free download.  It can be another blog post providing more information and knowledge on the same topic.  Whatever it is, have no fear in offering more freebies!  If you are afraid of Giving.  You may also be afraid of Receiving.  When in doubt, give!  Give with love, peace and gratitude.  Watch your marketing efforts shift right in front of your eyes.  This is a great way to start practicing Call to Action.  You’re giving people stuff…it totally takes the pressure off!

Objection #2: That’s not why I write and share!

I’m not trying to be mean here but I really feel like I have to.   So, give me a Moment to be a little blunt!   Get out of Entrepreneurship and proceed in finding a 9 to 5 job or volunteer work.  We write blogs for our business sites to generate leads and ultimately convert them into sales.  Granted, the old way of pushy sales is not effective.  Certainly will get you nowhere online.  Writing blog posts is one of the most effective ways to build a solid relationship online.  You are inviting your prospective clients to get to know you before you do business together.  If one of my Clients insists that their goal is not sales conversion at the end of the day, I’d have to ask you Why are they in business?

Whatever you choose is absolutely perfect.  Hey, I meet the most wonderful people in the non-profit sector.  I’d urge you to take the immediate action of switching your business blog to a hobby or personal blog.  I guarantee you will be happier in life!

Please remember…

As we develop a marketing plan, our first priority is to allow people to find out on their own how we can serve them; benefit their lifestyle.  If they feel inspired, they will likely want to check out your products and services.  The marketing process is simply a filtering process.  Out of 1000 people who are willing to hear what you have to share, maybe 100 will feel inspired to check out your product.  and depending on what your product/ service is, maybe on 1 or 99 people will be purchasing.  For example, everyone uses toilet paper…chances are if the pricing is right, 99 will buy.  If you’re selling a rare collection of ancient rocks, maybe on 1 will purchase.

See marketing and sales as a numbers game while you’re offering material and gifts to the World.   Yes, we are here to serve the World.  However, while serving the World, we are also here to secure our own lifestyle so that we can give even more!

eMail Management System- MailChimp

If you haven’t already started using MailChimp as your eMail Management System, please start doing so. You can Sign up for MailChimp now, or read on. ^_^

I have to admit that I’ve been hearing about MailChimp for awhile.  I’m not into hopping on the next fastest train to nowhere.  Internet moves way too fast.  Companies fail as quickly as they make it huge online.  So, I have been silently sitting on the sideline while all my geek friends talk about how wonderful MailChimp is.  Frankly, I much rather clip my toe nails or pick up dog poop.  Thinking about a new eMail management system makes my head hurt.

It’s not a fun thing switching eMail systems.  Constant Contact, aWeber, 1ShoppingCart…you name it, I’ve tried it.  Every time I exported and imported data, I seemed to lose a few contacts not to mention the pain and hassle of learning a new system.  I got to a point where I started using Google Contacts.  I didn’t want to deal with the trouble of figuring out yet, another system I’m about to disappoint myself with.  I’m certainly not going to pay each month for something I can accomplish with good old Google.   1ShoppingCart is great if you are running an online store.  aWeber is great if you are a professional Internet Marketing.  For a regular Joe like me who just wants to keep in contact with my friends, nothing seemed to fit right, until MailChimp.

This year, I’ve set strong Intentions to keep in contact with family and friends.  I also promised to deliver quality content to clients.  I decided that there’s no better time than now to clean house and consolidate the eMail databases I’ve neglected over the years.  I was determined to find something that will actually help me in time management instead of wasting my energy.  After all, I’m into living Effortless now remember?

What I love about MailChimp is they encourage building solid relationships rather than eMail address accumulation.  After all, this is not a game of who gets the most email addresses online but keeping solid ongoing relationships.  Let’s face it.  The eMail addresses don’t do us any good if they do not convert.  MailChimp is very good about helping you analyze your database.  No point paying for subscribers in your database if they never open your eMails right?

Now, let me share the top 5 reasons I love MailChimp.

Self-Adjusted monthly fees

They self adjust the monthly fees based on the # of contacts you have.  Let’s say their first tier is maxed out at 500 contacts at $10/mo (which you cannot get cheaper than that for the quality you are receiving). Their second tier is at $20/mo.  Your list is bouncing back between 490 and 510 subscribers.  They will self adjust your month charges based on the total number of contacts you have.  THAT, I like.  Hey, I live by “A penny saved is a penny earned.”  In a business, you have to watch your Bottom line.  If you can save $10 each month in 10 areas, that’s $100 you can invest back into your business; perhaps a Google ad campaign or a virtual assistant.

FREE account for 2000 Subscribers & 12000 eMails

As if the low rates aren’t good enough, you can actually manage your list at MailChimp for free.  They offer a free account for up to 2000 subscribers/ 12000 eMails each month.  The only catch is that you do not have an auto-responder.  You can only send out eMails manually- not have it auto-delivered.  Really, not a deal breaker!  When was the last time you really use a full eMail marketing campaign?  The other thing is if you do happened to have 2000 subscribers in your eMail list, you can only send out 6 eMails per month.  Again, not a deal breaker unless you are running a 7-day campaign with multiple test markets.  If that’s the case, it’s time to upgrade anyway!

New Grouping Feature giving Flexibility and save money

I love their new feature where you can give people the option of what they want to receive from you and how often.  You can group your eMails by frequency, categories of interest, etc.  Sky is the limit.  You can honor your customers, watch out for their best interest, and accommodate various requests.

This new feature gets better.  Because you do not have the eMails in separate campaigns (Lists), these eMail addresses counts as 1 instead of multiple.  Let’s say I sign up on your “How to bake chocolate cake” list and I also decide I want to be on your “How to lose 10 lbs in an hour” list.  Technically, I’m being counted as 2 eMail subscribers in most eMail Management Systems.  With this new Group feature, you’re counted as one because I’m being listed on only 1 list, but in 2 sub-lists (Groups)- one under “cake” and another under “lose weight”.  If you do the math, this can quickly add up to fees you can save each month.  Remember that Google Ad Campaign you’ve been wanting to try to bring in more business?  What about that virtual assistant who can relieve you of daily tasks you don’t have time to manage?

Tech Savvy

In our tech savvy mobile world today, cell phone adaptation is a must.  With MailChimp, you can give people the option to receive your eMails in html, plain-text, or mobile form.

You know that QR Code you use at the Airport?  They got that too!  I have not a clue how that works so I don’t know why I’m so excited but I am.

No code!  No code for Opt-In box!

Oh, forgot to tell you the best part if you are a WordPress user.  One of their specialties is integration with WordPress.  Yup!  There’s a plugin for the opt-in box.  Not the prettiest thing in the world but it’s not ugly either.  You have enough wiggle room in modification to make it look descent.  No code required.  Did you hear me?  No code!  and No more of those ugly opt-in boxes that don’t line up.

My point is…

My point is I’ve been wanting to switch to a new system for over a year. No joke! I searched high and low. I’ve finally found something I feel in alignment with.  It’s simple and efficient.  Their technology support their relationship with me (their customer).  This tool also watches out for my clients.  Not a lot of hyped up features that don’t really help you convert.  The few features they have, they do very well.  These few features are exactly what you need in sales conversion- relationship building.

Here’s the link to Sign up for MailChimp. It’s simple and the zero in on what’s important. In an eMail Management System, I’m looking for longevity. I want something that will grow with my business and I believe I’ve found my new love!

Spiritual Marketing: Challenges

What is all this with ‘Challenges’ in Marketing Campaigns?  This morning I received an email invitation to participate in a Financial Freedom Challenge.   I see these emails all the time and never really paid attention.  But this morning, it intrigued me.  This marketing tactic obviously works, otherwise they won’t keep on doing it. I find it absolutely fascinating people like to be “challenged”?

For us Lightworkers, it really doesn’t feel in alignment.  Perhaps, that’s the reason we are allergic to marketing and 3rd Dimensional business practices.

From a Spiritual Marketing perspective,  asking people to participate in a Challenge says to me:

1.  You can’t really do this on your own. Let me show you.  Really? Put me down, then pick me up…Hummm…you all know where I’m going with this…

2.  Life is full of challenges and your goals are challenging.  You will always suffer.  Life is Effortless if I want it to be.  Life can be hard if I believe it is.  Why would I emphysize the belief  system that life is challenging and “this task” may not obtainable?  If I don’t want to do it, I can easily delegated this task to someone else.  Nothing challenging about that.  Now, you might say “Who can I pay to do this?” or “I don’t have the funds to hire someone…”.  The fact is what I don’t enjoy doing, there are tons of people who do, for free.  and vice versa.  Do a trade with a business associate.  That’s what’s so cool about the World.  We all have our own passion and gifts.  The Truth is what we think about comes about.  If I’m constantly filling my mind with “Challenges”, then that’s what I will create.  On top of that, a Financial Freedom Challenge?  What will this create in my subconscious mind after their 21 day exercise?  WOW!

3.  Once you’ve succeeded in this “Challenge”, now what?  I guess on to the next Challenge.  Boy, these challenges never end. If I believe this, then I put myself in the vibration of always chasing after the impossible, hoping for the possible.  Thank you but I think I will pass.  Let me share a big secret in mega success. Whatever we want, we get.  It’s up to us to shift our belief system to believe that we deserve to live an abundant lifestyle, Effortlessly! I have to be a firm believer that the timing may not be instant but it’s always for our highest and best good.  There are no challenges in life.  They are opportunities for me to choose between an Effortless lifestyle vs. a life full of drama, chaos, & challenges.

So the next time you think about including “Challenges” in your marketing campaign, think about whether or not these are the clients you really want to attract?  If yes, great!  Go for it!  Pause for a moment and evaluate if you believe in this as well?  Does this marketing campaign fit your Brand?   If it feels in alignment, wonderful.  Definitely think about what vibration you wish to create for yourself and clients.  Feeling of not good enough?  or Unconditional Love & Acceptance?

At the end of the day, we are Lightworkers.  My personal feelings are we signed up to help people feel good about themselves and move forward on Earth in peace and light.  I intend to stick with that no matter how much these “Challenge” marketing campaigns benefit the pocket book.

Let me know how you feel and what you’re experiences are in the comment section below.  I’d love to hear different perspectives.  ^_^  As always, the email entry below is for security reasons making sure you’re not some auto-bot.  We respect your privacy.

4 C’s of mega online traffic

Web technology seems to move faster and faster. Either developers are getting smarter or I’m getting older! Before I’m done solidifying a marketing plan, more information come knocking. Often, I feel like I need to revisit my plan and go back to square one. During these times, I remind myself of the 4 C’s in mega online traffic. Stick to rules that have been proven for success no matter how fast technology moves.

#1: Clarity.
Having a clear vision and purpose can help business owners promote authentic connection with prospective clients. It’s difficult to figure out a “call to action” when we are not sure what we want in the first place. I have find that people appreciate straight-forwardness. They find it refreshing to meet entrepreneurs who are not afraid to ask for what they want. Let’s face it. We are all busy. The last thing we need is to listen to a muddy sales pitch with no resolution.

#2: Content in king.
Don’t be afraid to share your personality and feelings from the heart. People no longer will buy without checking you out first.  They want to know who you are and what you’re about. Some go as far as requesting for blood type and background checks.  Okay, just kidding!  Bad joke!  But really, people do want to know who you are in today’s business world.  Buyers are savvy.  The positive side of this is that you can also create loyalty from this.  The world is huge. There are clients out there looking to work with someone just like you. It’s your job to put yourself out there so they can find you easily.  Allow yourself to shine!

#3: Consistency.
You can demonstrate consistency in your writing style, a sign-off or signature, videos, web design, and imagery. The possibilities are endless. Oh, and let people know when to expect you each week. It’s a good practice to use blogging platforms built on WordPress, where you can schedule your blog posts for future release. I personally love this capability.  Sometimes, I get a writing bug and can write for days.  Other days, I’m all dried up!  Can’t squeeze an alphabet out without my Chin-glish showing through.

#4: Build a Community with like-minds & like-hearts.
So, here’s the thing: You do not need to start a forum or anything. This is purely a suggestion to build synergy with those who have similar goals and interests as you. The power is always multiplied when you have cheerleaders who are willing to join efforts and create something magical. You can join local meetups or online groups. Know deeply that we all have our unique set of talents and gifts. Support each other while we serve the world. You’d surprised at how many business and personal connections you can make from a Community.

Is marketing on Facebook still a good idea?

marketing on facebook- snoozeSo, is marketing on Facebook still a good idea?  Yes and no.  Sometimes I feel like I’m better off snoozing at the keyboard when I log on social media sites.

Although social media is a big part in today’s world, I can certainly think of other marketing strategies that offer more in rewards.  Hey, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a part of a huge circle of business owners who use the web platform to make money.  Facebook is no different.  Their own pocket book will always come first, especially after they went public in May 2012.  It is expected by their investors that they expand as projected.

It’s no secret I stepped away from social media for at least a year to soul search. When I returned, Facebook has changed enough I felt I had to relearn everything. What I have noticed is that the pages are more confusing than ever.  With them offering business owners opportunities to buy ad space, I find that company pages are less visible in personal feeds.   Gee.  I wonder why?

Let’s face it.  For the most part, no one listens to us on Facebook besides our grandmas.  People go on facebook to have fun, not to get stressed with work stuff.   Due to all the spam, most of us turn off auto-notification.  The legit promotions are lost in the thousands of self promotional material filling my inbox.  It’s quite interesting how it has evolved in a short year.

Here are my opinions about marketing on Facebook in 2o12:

1.  It is still a great free platform to keep in touch with your existing customers.   If you set up a public page in Facebook, you can manage many expectations before they become customer service issues.  This can demonstrate your business practices to the public.

2.  Facebook page is a great way for a business owner to announce upcoming specials, events, and offer coupons.  But I could do the same in an eMail blast.  So, I’ll leave this one up to you to decide what’s more productive in your business.

3.  Posting your content on Facebook and other social media platforms helps you share your passion and craft.  Granted, we are competing with many others.  But I still believe in the power of the internet.  It can turn your material viral.  and we love that!

In short, I’d suggest social media to be the secondary support to your marketing strategies.  If you’re new in using the web as part of your marketing plans,  it’s a great idea to set up a solid social media presence while you build and expand your business.

Why I love video marketing

DIY Online Solutions- Video Marketing vLog by Jennifer Cloake

People ask me all the time why I’m so hot on video marketing? Believe it or not, I wasn’t always in love with them. I was pretty much camera shy. Gaining 30 lbs didn’t exactly boost my confidence in the camera department either.

Here’s the thing, people want to connect with you. You want to stand out, you have to be visible in some way, shape, and form. Videos don’t have to be the answer for you but it sure is a quick easy way to get your Message out to the public.

1. I love it because I get to post it on Youtube. Youtube gives me some html code (in street talk: jibberish) where I can easily copy and paste it into my blog posts. Super simple!

2. I love it because I get to connect! Truly connect. With technology, not really feasible to have coffee meetings anymore…certainly doesn’t work when it’s on a global scale. Well, videos would be the next best thing. No one wants to read anymore. They want to Feel your vibe!

3. View the video…there are many hints such as modifying and recycle your content, marketing tool for Coaches, riding on others’ SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Efforts. There, enough said on #3…video blogging is way easier and faster for me than typing it all out for you!

Now you get why I love video marketing? ^_^

Luv, peas & carrots! May the Online Force be with you…

Focus on Social Media or SEO?

YouTube vLog: Dave and Jennifer, your 2 Nerds, discuss whether to focus your marketing efforts with SEO or Social Media.

Some say focus on SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and some say Social Networking is the way to go.  Well, which is it?

A discussion on where to start — Should you focus on Social Media first, or Search Engine Optimization?

Bottom line is that you should focus on what you WANT to do- followed by what you’re good at.

If you’re more social and feel comfortable doing Social Media, then start with Social Media.

If you’re more technical and like SEO then you should begin your online efforts with SEO.

Doing something that you’re not comfortable with will feel like work. So if you concentrate on what you’re interested in, either Social Media or SEO, then it’ll come more naturally and easier.

Popular People like to help Others

YouTube vLog:
Jennifer Cloake, DIY Marketing Nerd, interviews David Tyreman, Branding Identity Specialist with World Famous Co. in DIY Shop Talk Video Series discussing that popular people like to help others.

Even if you’re shy, you can reach out and help others online.  Try reaching out by emailing or messaging people privately.  You do not need to be “public” about it.  Popular people are generally the ones who are willing to reach out and make a difference in people’s lives.  They authentically create an experience where they can help others  feel good about themselves.

Reach out and help someone today!  Even if  it’s saying Hi, smile, or asking how they are doing.

I see dead peeps…Online

Jennifer Cloake sees dead peeps in social media.

Alright! You may get mad at me for my “Mass Poke”, as my Facebook friend CrazyJef calls it. But I think it’s time for a dose of Online Awakening (with tons of love of course…LOL). I’m not ashamed to admit I like rocking the boat a bit.

Frankly, I’m tired of seeing business owners who want to gain Publicity yet tries so hard to be Invisible in Social Media. I know, I know…I’ve been beating everyone over the head with “Do Not Sell!” and yet I want you to be more Visible. How? WTF right?

Okay, here’s the deal. You’re online in Social Media to brand yourself. Branding means broadcasting your Branding Message- That’s the message to Inspire Others to work with you and no one else. and Broadcasting your Message means you have to be more Visible. It doesn’t mean you need to talk about your Business in conversations 24/7. I sincerely believe there’s more to You than your products and services.

Why are we so ashamed of sharing who we are, what we think, or what we believe in? I’m not asking you to tell the World how often you take a shower (unless you want to), what your deepest darkest secrets are, or even what your checking account balance is. Just a tiny bit about You- toasted or untoasted, dogs vs. cats, maybe just quotes that inspire you, youtubes that make you ROFLMAO.

I can see it now…Objection Alert on my “dead peeps” video! To save you some time, I’ve come up with 7…the rest, go figure it out! hahah hah I trust that you’re brilliant and can come up with creative solutions.

Objection #1: “If I get involved in conversations, then my eMail box will be filled with notices.”
Solution: Get a GMail account set up for social media notifications and junk mail. And know what else is cool? Most (if not all) social media platform like Twitter and Facebook all have options to turn off auto notifications.

Objection #2: “I don’t know what to say.”
Solution: Great! How about a “thumbs up” in Facebook? How about just say “Hey, I really like this…”. The key is to be sincere about it. If there’s nothing you like ever ever ever…then time to seek therapy. =)

Objection #3: “I’d be sitting here tweeting all day. What about work?”
Solution: Schedule your social media time just like you would for marketing and branding time in you business. I find Social Media to be the best trainer on time management skills.

Objection #4: “Such a waste of time.”
Solution: If this is your Objection, then Social Media platform is not your thing. Don’t waste another minute using it as a Marketing tool for you or your business. You MUST be comfortable with what you do otherwise prospects will smell your b.s. from the other side of the globe. You will stink up the whole entire Cyberspace.

Object #5: “I don’t want to share my thoughts and feelings on Facebook…”
Solution: Receiving starts with Giving. And part of Giving is Sharing. Understand you don’t have to share your finances, your Mother’s maiden name. Sharing your thoughts shows who you’re as a person. That’s the fastest and best way to build a relationship online. You will attract people who are attracted to you. So, either you’re embarrassed about who you are (again, seek therapy. LOL) or you’re putting up a wall. Your Online Peeps can feel the invisible wall, whether you notice it or not. Know that you may not click with everyone, but the ones who will click with you will be grateful to see your authenticity and become your biggest fans.

Objection #6: “No one cares what I have to say…”
Solution: I do. And that’s at least 1 person you know of. If you think no one cares what you have to say, then the Universe will give you just that. Further, lets bring it to real life…If you don’t think people care about what you have to say, then why should they care about what you have to say about your Business? Your Products? Your Services? Hire someone else who actually believe in You and your Business to marketing for you. Do not do it yourself.

Objection #7: “This seems like so much work…”
Solutions: Well, like anything else, it does take time and effort to build. The key is build an Efficient system and have it be Automated as much as possible so you don’t have to work so hard in the future. If it’s not fun for you and it seems like work, it may not be the marketing platform for you. Don’t do it just because everyone else is doing it. Definitely don’t do it because your hear it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Social Media will only work as a marketing strategy for your Business if you believe in it and have fun with it.
Understand it’s a marketing strategy, not the answer to your prayers.

Wake up! Don’t be one of those dead peeps I see online. Take baby steps…it’s okay to come out and play on Facebook. Give yourself the permission to Believe in your Business. And that start with Believing in Yourself.

Waiting for Online Business

Jennifer Cloake, Founder of DIY Online Solutions, suggests not to wait for Online Business.

Okay, here’s the deal. A lot of things seem like axx backwards Online but the honest truth is it makes tons of sense. It’s the same concepts in Investing and what has help many Entrepreneurs achieve Mega Success.

Many business owners think if they load up their products and services Online, people will flock to their website. Well, no! The truth: No one cares! I’m not trying to be a downer here but Buyers are very savvy. It’s a fact that with globalization and the convenience of online purchases, chances are very slim you are the only one with your specialty, products, and/ or services.
So, stay away from the mindset that “if you build it they will come…”.

So, that leaves us desperately looking for business. We knock on doors and make friends we don’t necessarily want to talk to on Facebook, Twitter, and God knows where else Online. Some might be interested in buying but there’s little to none when it comes to loyalty. And really, there are tons of salesperson knocking on the same doors selling the same things. This leaves us business owners extremely frustrated. When do we take a break for vacation? When we get back, there’s no business. No business means no money. And we all know no money means no food…boy, we sure are creating a lot of unnecessary stress for ourselves, aren’t we?

Here’s what I’m suggesting: If you need income right now, get a job. While you build your business (which I always advocate), you work- even if it’s a part time job. The fact is you need to be in the mental space where you aren’t desperate for money. Needing money will cause a business owner make decisions they wouldn’t otherwise make. Often times, it will come back and bite you in the axx.

Power of $1
Jennifer Cloake, Founder of DIY Online, shares a marketing secret online- The Power of $1

Hey, you might be spending $5 on a cup of coffee these days but don’t discount The Power of $1 online.

99 Cent Store rakes in millions on this principle. When was the last time you bought only 1 item at the 99 Cent Store? Me- NEVER! I always end up with shopping carts full of stuff.

Now, with automated email delivery systems online, you literally can come up with tutorials- videos or .PDF’s, charge $1 each, rinse, and repeat! =) It takes you a little bit of initial efforts but with ongoing marketing and the benefits of a WordPress Blog, you can really automate much of your efforts.

More details in the video, you’ll know what I mean. You can set up monthly memberships to generate residual income. You can choose to pump out 100 of this mini-tutorials, make a series out of them. Sky is the limit and there’s no stopping when it comes to creativity.

I hope you enjoy this post. Feel free to share this with your friends. =)

Where should I get started first?

Jennifer Cloake, Founder of DIY Online, shares where to get started with Online Marketing as a Business. Social Media, WordPress Blog, or SEO efforts?

Well, Social Media Gurus are going to tell you that you need to take action NOW in Social Media because it’s the hottest thing in town. SEO Experts will tell you it’s important to rank very high in Google Search Engine. I, the WordPress Advocate, will tell you to start with a blog first because it’s Social Media and SEO friendly. On top of that, you get to set up limitless landing pages with our DIY Landing Page Plugin (Yes, my one shameless plug a day…it keeps the doctor away…hah haa) Confused yet?

Here’s the deal…

It doesn’t freaking matter where you get started first. Forget what we all tell you. You need to make this decision yourself.

What I’d suggest is picking between Social Media and a WordPress Blog first. Forget about SEO for now. SEO efforts will be automatically achieved with a self-hosted Blog with some simple DIY strategies and keyword placement.

Take action now. When I started DIY Online Solutions, I had a one-page landing page set up with an opt-in box asking for email addresses so I can notify people when DIY launches. I had some keywords on the page and by having the page sit there while I figure out marketing strategies, I’m already being indexed by Google. The longer your site is indexed, the more points you receive. Of course, there are many other variables. We’ll talk about that on a different day.

I don’t care what anyone tells you, you cannot build an online presence over night. So, one little task a night. Don’t get overwhelmed. Just make a point of doing something online each day. If you feel like setting up a landing page, great! If you want to chat in Facebook to build relationships, wonderful! Just do something…anything.

Online Success Tip- Tagging in YouTube

Jennifer Cloake, Founder of, shares SEO Marketing Strategy- When and what to tag in YouTube.

So, every so often I Google my name or search YouTube. It’s what I called PR Management. Being in marketing, I don’t mind my name out there. The more the better. Hey, I’m easy going. I don’t even mind when it’s associated with negative comments- as long as it’s not porn and stuff…that’s where I draw the line. Publicity is publicity. You have to make that decision.

However, I came across a video on YouTube tonight when I searched my name. The video has nothing to do with me. Honestly, I was a little pissed. Of course, I immediately thought it was a great educational moment because it was an Awesome SEO marketing strategy gone MAD!!! So I’m going to officially thank the butthead who made the video. LOL

Here’s the deal. I’m not ashamed to admit that I advise clients and students to ride on the celebrity publicity. Let’s say you’re a marriage counselor and you see Tiger Woods have a bit of a marital issue. It’s perfectly okay to write a blog or make a video about the situation. You can say something like “Tiger Woods has been in the news a lot because of of infidelity. Let’s talk about Trust today. How do you move forward in a relationship when trust has been broken?” In this case, it is perfectly acceptable to enter “Tiger Woods” as one of your tags (tags are basically keyword search) because you talked about him in your video. You’re giving your Expert opinion on his situation. Now, this has nothing to do with morality. I personally think stuff like this should be handled privately. But we’re talking about SEO ranking here. Not a morality issue so don’t write me and complain about it. =)

By the way, you can do the same with happy news!

The bonehead who made the video has a tag list, no joke, a mile long of people’s names. First of all, it’s unnecessary. Second of all, it’s completely inappropriate. Talking about making enemies and not friends. I think he tagged all sorts of people, famous or not. Although I’m thinking he forgot to tag his dog and mom. But that’s another story for another day.

My dear friend, don’t tag people when they are not mentioned in your video just so it will show up when people search for their name or certain keywords. I see this a lot in Facebook as well. Marketers will tag all their friends when the video or post is about the dump they made that morning- nothing to do with their friends. In doing so, their material shows up on all their friends’ pages. RUDE!

Don’t do it!!!

If you have questions about SEO, Landing Pages, or Social Media…feel free to post them on Dave and I are happy to help.

Jennifer Cloake- Giving Credit

Jennifer Cloake, Founder of, discusses the importance of giving credit where it’s due.

I had the pleasure of meeting Steve Wiideman,,  the other night at a workshop.  He gave a superb presentation on SEO tips.

You all know I’m not too crazy about self-proclaimed Gurus and Experts.  Steve impressed me right away when he mentioned he’s not one of the Experts who claims to know everything but he does know where to get the information.  Guess what?  Whenever someone openly admits to this, they are typically one of the top-notch Experts.  No ego involved…me like!!!  =)

For this marketing nerd, I’ve always been resistant in learning SEO.  Ask Dave.  I found it to be too technical and I rather go play on Facebook and make silly videos.  Steve explained it in a precise straight forward fashion in which I believe a Do-It-Yourselfer could understand.

One of the tips he mentioned was to start a FREE account on You get to post a free ad for you business and ride on their high SEO ranking.  I tried it myself and within 24 hours, it was indexed and appeared on Page one when you search DIY Online Solutions.  Pretty cool!

I’m excited and looking forward to his future workshops.  Steve, consider me a big fan!
